Pall Thordarson (Palli) was born in Vopnafjörður in the north-east of Iceland. He completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2001. He joined the University of New South Wales School of Chemistry in 2007 where he is now a professor and a Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio-Nano Science. Palli’s main research activities are within the broad areas of nanomedicine, supramolecular and systems chemistry. He actively engages in advancing the general public’s understanding of chemistry, including most recently on how soap helps to defeat COVID-19.
